Cabinet Making I
Course Level: Introductory
Course Description: Design and construction of base cabinets and wall cabinets for kitchens and bathrooms. Emphasis on the safe use of portable and stationary power tools.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Identify types and components of a cabinet; label types of joints used in cabinet construction; name the standard sizes of the typical kitchen cabinets; label types of cabinet doors; identify hardware used on cabinets; list the types of materials used on cabinets and counter tops; draw plans; calculate costs; and prepare a bill of materials; demonstrate safe use of hand, portable, and stationary power tools; and lay out, cut, and assemble components using proper joints and fastening devices to construct a cabinet.
Cabinet Making II
Course Description: Advanced skills in machine woodworking and hand craftsmanship. Emphasizes advanced design and door and drawer construction, laminate installation.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Estimate the cost of cabinet construction jobs; select the types of wood and materials to be used in cabinet construction; read blueprints and cabinet drawings; calculate measurements regarding cabinet layout and construction; design and develop working drawings and specifications; and layout, cut, and assemble components.
Cabinet Making III
Course Description: Techniques of furniture making.
End-of-Course Outcomes: Identify the different types of furniture construction; construct doors and drawers; select from among joints and construction techniques; name each part of a furniture piece; and identify different materials used for furniture construction; demonstrate safe use of portable and stationary power tools; develop a furniture design; and lay out, cut, and components.
